A Summer Spike in COVID-19 Cases
There have been increasing amounts of positive COVID-19 tests throughout United States, with the Southern states being hit the hardest. Hospital rates are also on an upward trend again. In Pennsylvania and Ohio, the majority of counties in both states have been moved to the red zone for community levels.
In Eastern Ohio, Trumbull County is seeing an average of 73 positive cases daily, Mahoning County is at 84 average daily cases, and Columbiana is seeing an average of 34 positive cases.
In Western Pennsylvania, Erie County is seeing an average of 56 positive cases daily, Crawford is averaging 20, Mercer is seeing about 29, Lawrence is at 21, and Beaver is seeing an average of 39 positive cases per day.
Overall, Pennsylvania is seeing an average of 3,534 positive cases per day, with 70% of the state being fully vaccinated, and Ohio is seeing an average of 4,433 positive cases per day, with only 59% of the state being fully vaccinated.
When your area is experiencing high levels of infection, the CDC urges the following prevention steps:
Wear a mask indoors in public
Wash hands frequently
Clean and disinfect all surface areas
Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
Get tested if you have symptoms
Additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness
